When I was cutting up the cucumbers for the soup, I was struck by the sweet smell. It reminded me of melon. Then I heard or read somewhere — can't remember — that cucumbers and melons are related. (Here's something that I Googled just now that gets into it. It's way too complicated for me to read.) So, anyway, just winging it, I made the soup with the cucumbers, Greek yogurt, mint, lemon juice, and a dash or two of hot sauce for interest.
When I got around to eating the soup, it was really sweet and would easily qualify for the dessert category. I thought that maybe in the foodie universe that cucumber desserts had made the rounds, much like the bacon phenomenon did earlier.
My searches indicate otherwise. Maybe it's a trend that's coming.
